About Us: My Story

One of my fondest childhood memories is walking through the citrus groves with my grandfather, and watching for birds to fly from their nests. He would then lift me up so that I could take a quick peek in the nest, under strict orders from him not to touch anything. We would make a note of the tree (like 8th row, 10th column), and go back in a few days to see if eggs had hatched, or baby birds had grown. He taught me about the miracle of life when I was still a young girl.

I'm an animal lover, and have always had birds when I was growing up, but had never attempted to breed them. Several years ago, I acquired a pair of zebra finches. It was only a few months before little eggs appeared. When the first egg hatched, and I saw that tiny baby bird, I was hooked. This was what I wanted to do. My kids were mostly grown and, figuratively speaking, had left the nest, so I decided to start a new business.

With the support of Bruce, my very understanding husband, we made space for lots of new cages. Then, in November of 2007, we completed our first aviary building. Star Palms Aviary had officially begun.

Every day I spend time with my birds is a blessing from God. I watch, and learn things from them and about them all the time. My handfed babies are treated with tender loving care. Each one is a miracle. I hope these miracles will be a blessing to your home, too.
